Maybe it's time for us all too really take an extra minute to examine the healthy choices offered as well, look at the possibilities of a healthier dining experience.What about the healthy food choices to go along as well?

I often wonder what the thinking process of one who looks through the menu before ordering, are we just going for the biggest T-bone steak? Do they offer different cut sizes? Lean or fat? What do they offer as side dishes that are healthy or am I just going to get what I know I should not have? If you really just take an extra minute or two to look at some healthier choices your body will thank you in the long run.

Pork fried rice, taco supreme, cheeseburger all the way.... no matter what kind of restaurant you like, chances are that its menu is loaded with diet-busting options.

And since Americans eat almost 24% of our meals at restaurants, according to the National Restaurant Association, making poor choices when we eat out can really wreak havoc on our waistlines. The good news is that, armed with a little knowledge, you can put together a healthier meal at almost any restaurant.

"Good choices consist of meals that have lots of fruits and veggies, lean fish or chicken, lean cuts of meat, veggie-based sauces instead of cream sauces - there are always healthy options on every restaurant menu," says Sheila Cohn, RD, a spokesperson for the National Restaurant Association. Experts took us through a range of menus, from deli to Italian, for a step-by-step guide to dining out light.

Yes, even going out to your local pub or deli, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, other Asian delight restaurants and any other fast food or sit down restaurants, you can find healthy food choices at all of these establishments. All it takes is a little knowledge and some careful diagnosis while looking through the menu and you can turn your dining evening into a more healthy and pleasurable experience.

Eating healthy and making healthy living choices is what it is all about. It is what I have experienced in my life and what I learned from others, reading and benefited from throughout the health field industry. And this is a subject that most people do not talk more about and I believe it is time we all should and just take a moment and explore the more healthy food choices offered to us while out dining. Remember, you can Eat Out, but Eat Smart. You owe it to yourself.
